A Down Syndrome Preschool Milestone to Celebrate
This week marks a huge milestone in Maisy’s world — her Down Syndrome Preschool transition! 💛
Maisy has been transitioning from the toddler room into the preschool room at nursery — and she’s absolutely loving it! It feels like such a milestone, one of those moments where I realise just how far she’s come on her Down Syndrome journey. On Monday, she’ll officially move into the preschool room full-time, and I honestly couldn’t be prouder (or more emotional, if I’m being truthful!).
Moving up to preschool feels like the next chapter in Maisy’s journey. The children are that little bit older, a touch more independent, and full of energy and curiosity. It’s the perfect environment for her to keep growing and learning. She’ll be surrounded by new friends who’ll help her develop her social skills, communication, and play — and, in true Maisy style, she’s already made quite the impression.
Embracing the Down Syndrome Preschool Adventure
From what I hear, she’s become the centre of attention in her new room. The team tell me that when Maisy rolls in, the whole room lights up. Her infectious smile and cheeky personality seem to draw everyone in. You’ll often find a little crowd of children gathered around her, eager to play, talk, or just be part of her world. It’s such a heartwarming image — my little girl, radiating joy, surrounded by laughter and love. For children like Maisy, a Down syndrome preschool transition can be a big change, but with the right support and inclusion, it becomes a chance to shine.
One of the biggest changes that’s helping Maisy in her Down Syndrome Preschool transition is her walker (You can read more about this here: Maisy’s Next Big Step 💛 Down Syndrome Milestone). She’s now regularly using it at nursery, and it’s made such a difference. For the first time, she’s up at the same height as her friends, looking at them face-to-face instead of gazing up from the floor. That’s a big deal — both socially and emotionally. It means she’s part of the action, right there in the mix, joining games, sharing toys, and showing off her incredible determination and independence.
Watching her with her walker is honestly one of the most beautiful things. It’s not just about mobility; it’s about confidence. I can see it in her eyes — she knows she’s doing something amazing. Every little step, every giggle-filled journey across the room, feels like a celebration of how far she’s come.
Transitions like this always bring a mix of excitement and nerves. For Maisy, it’s a new space, new faces, and a slightly faster pace. But she’s taken it all in stride (literally!). For me, as her Dadda, it’s one of those bittersweet moments. I’ve spent so long focusing on each Down Syndrome developmental milestone — learning to sit, to stand, to walk — and suddenly, I’m looking at a little girl who’s ready for preschool.
It’s such a powerful reminder of how resilient and capable she is. Maisy’s journey hasn’t always been straightforward, but every single step has been filled with love, laughter, and a fierce determination that leaves me in awe.
And while I’m celebrating this next step, I have to take a moment to give a huge thank you to the incredible team at her nursery. They have been absolutely instrumental in Maisy’s Down syndrome preschool success — working so closely with her healthcare professionals, adapting the nursery environment to meet her needs, and always making sure she’s fully included in every aspect of nursery life.
It isn’t just a nursery to me; it’s been a true extension of our family. The care, communication, and dedication they’ve shown go far beyond what I could ever have hoped for. They’ve supported Maisy every step of the way — and supported me too, through all the milestones, meetings, and magical moments.
A special mention has to go to Hayley, Maisy’s amazing 1-to-1, who has been with her since day one. Hayley has seen Maisy through every stage of her nursery journey — cheering her on, encouraging her progress, and always bringing warmth and joy to her days. I’m truly grateful for everything she’s done and continue to be in awe of her patience, kindness, and dedication. I’ll forever be in her debt for the role she’s played in helping Maisy become the confident, happy little girl she is today.
So here’s to the preschool chapter — new adventures, new friendships, and plenty more proud-Dadda moments to come.
As Maisy continues her Down syndrome preschool transition, I know she’ll keep lighting up every room with her confidence and love for life. You make me laugh, you make me proud, and you remind me every single day that the journey is just as special as the destination.
I can’t wait to see what this next phase brings — but one thing’s for sure… you’re more than ready for it. 💛
